Rebel Without a Cause

Rebel Without a Cause

That’s it! I have made a decision, and I want you all to join me. I know my son’s contrarian streak didn’t come from the ether…there’s a little of that in me. I am owning that, and I am embracing my inner rebel. The time is now, and we must stand up for what we believe in regardless of the repercussions.

I am rebelling against Daylight Savings Time (DST). I have had it! I don’t like it, and now is the time to do something about it. I don’t like feeling tired for like a week after the changeover, regardless of how early I go to bed. I am a morning person. Oh, I know, they tell us: But it’s light in the evening. Well, we are supposed to sleep in the evening, so give me the light in the morning. In fact, I am taking the light. I am walking out on DST.

Join me! I am changing all of my clocks back. That means I will be an hour late everywhere, but what’s a few (or 60) minutes between friends?! Frankly, I feel like the world should do what I want it to do for once and submit to my will. I don’t like the way things are going, so I am not going to play along anymore. Join me!

Yes, I know this is not a smart plan. I understand that. Making a change like this would never work, but people like you and me (maybe actually you and me) take this approach every day. We act on our whims and desires, and we declare, it’s our way or the highway. Sometimes others might follow us in our rebellion, but God never does.

There is a standard in my life, and it is God. Sometimes I want to rebel, and do things my way. I show up when I want to show up, and I build my schedule around what works best for me. That plan won’t work for me with DST or with God, because God doesn’t bow to my will…ever.

God wants to be in charge, and God wants to organize our calendar. On our own, we are unprotected and nothing will work out the way it should, but with God, the timing is just right and we are never out of place. We see this truth in Psalm 121:8: “The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever.” Following God keeps us on schedule and gets us to our destination safely.

We never want to walk out on God. We want to walk with God and at the pace He sets for us. If we do that, every moment in the sun will be well-used, and we will find our rest in Him.

Blessings to you,

Joe
