11 Jan Say Hello to Drew Childers
My name is Drew Childers and I am so excited to say that I’m joining the Shoreline family as an intern this year! I will be working closely with Joe and the rest of the staff to learn about what it takes to start a church, the various ministries of the church, and I will be tasked with the exciting adventure of launching a youth ministry!
I’m currently a full-time student at VSU, majoring in Middle Grades Education with a focus in English and Science. I will be completing my degree in May of 2019. I will be turning 22 on February 5th, which coincidentally, is Shoreline’s 1-year anniversary! I’m from Brunswick, GA and have been in GA for 9 years now and have loved every second of it.
I couldn’t have told you 9 years ago that by age 21 I would be working in a church, let alone still attending one. That is why I love investing in students. Who knows where they will be 9 years from now, but I do know that if I can help them in their relationship with Jesus then I won’t have to worry about them in 9 years. Middle and High School is one of the most confusing times in life, and, I believe, is the time where students develop the most. I long for every single student and person to develop in their walk with Christ daily.
My goal is to help cultivate that in any way I can, and I hope I can bring a different outlook to the table as we all grow together.
Although I’m coming with fresh eyes, I am not coming without any experience. I have had the honor of serving as the Student Ministries Director at The Gathering Church, the High School Youth Coordinator at Park Avenue United Methodist Church, and a Church Plant Intern for Catalyst Church in Alaska. In every position that I’ve had the opportunity to serve, I have seen God work in many ways. However, if there’s anything that I’ve constantly seen throughout my time, it has been that God transforms lives and people longed to be loved.
Life transformation within the context of community is what I desire to be a part of in this next stage of my journey. My greatest hope for Shoreline is to become filled with people of all ages that love and serve others through every season of life. One of my greatest passions and I believe, my calling, is to cultivate that community. I can’t wait to meet everyone and begin to build relationships that I know will last a lifetime!
In Truth and Love,
